Member, National Knowledge Commission
Currently Advisor, National Knowledge Commission, a high-level advisory body to the Prime Minister of India, with the objective of transforming India into a knowledge society.

Selected for commission in the Indian Army during his college days itself. After Graduation in Physics, he joined the Armed Forces before joining the Indian Administrative Service in the year 1973 with five years anti date seniority. (Allotment year 1968). Covering a wide breadth of experience S. Regunathan served in many different areas and positions from Finance to Information Technology, from Animal Husbandry to Tourism. He launched the literacy programme as Education secretary between 194-98 wherein a later survey recorded a 9% increase in general literacy levels in Delhi. As Principal Secretary to Chief Minister and Chief Secretary, Delhi S. Regunathan conceptualized and launched the Bhagidari programme and the Stree Shakti Programme and instituted good governance practices for everyone in the Govt, to follow. Both the programmes won international recognition. Regunathan took the prime initiative to computerize the entire Delhi govt, machinery and introducing online transaction in many departments. Fie was also instrumental in privatization of distribution of power. Before taking over as Chief Secretary, Delhi, S Regunathan did a short four-month stint as Secretary, Animal husbandry in the ministry of Agriculture, Govt, of India. In this brief period he introduced IT in the working of the department across the entire country, revised, and modified the Backyard poultry scheme.
